Tomorrow (9 Feb) marks the Dublin arrival of Rest’s album launch tour. I wanted to post a review of the new recordI Hold The Wolf ahead of the gig and haven’t been able to gather my thoughts on time. You see, it’s huge and heavy in scope and score, and so far I’ve merely mumbled the musical equivalent of a cretinous ‘phwooar’ at the passing backside of each track. It’s not easy to describe metal and in this instance, Rest have taken a huge stride away from the softer post-rock strains of their earlier productions in favour of unflinching, powerful, deliciously destructive rock at its hardest. I will come back to this with more words, but in the meantime, you must attend and savour the live experience.
